Perinatalogist Appointment # 1 - 15 weeks

Mike and I learned quite a bit of information today, some promising and some shocking, but information all the same. We spent approximately one and a half hours watching our little ones move around and in some cases be moved around. The look for a membrane continued and was unsucessful. The doctor is going to review some earlier ultrasounds, but we are going to preceed with the treatment for a mono/mono pregnancy as originally planned. Today Baby A measured at 15 weeks and 4 days and had a heart rate of 130. And Baby B measured at 15 weeks and 3 days and had a heart rate of 146. Baby A was sleeping I guess! The babies checked out REALLY well and seem to be growing ahead of schedule. The tech and the doctor believe that we are going to be having two little girls! We will know for sure at the next appointment but, right now this is what it looks like.
Our treatment plan is one of the questions that we wanted answered today. And we have a rough idea of how we will be proceeding from here on out. At this time, we are preparing for me to go inpatient at 24 weeks gestation. This will be around the end of October. While in the hospital, we will have regular monitoring and ultrasounds to keep track of the little ones. We will be planning to deliver the babies around 32 weeks gestation which will be one week prior to Christmas.
Wow...that is alot of information! Our next appointment with the doctor will be on September 9. So, till then we will sit tight and try to plan as much as possible. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Last Appointment with Regular OB - August 17, 2009

Well, today was my last appointment with the OB that delivered both of my other children. She is leaving the clinic in Brookings and so I have decided to move my care to Sioux Falls.
The appointment today went well. All I really cared about was seeing the babies and knowing that they were alright. And they were! They were laying one on top of the other with ones head by the other ones feet. They were literally kicking each other in the head! The heart beats were good and strong. They are still currently around the same size. But, measuring ahead of where I am with gestational age. I guess that is a good thing, the bigger they are the better they will do!
In deciding to move my care to Sioux Falls, I have been referred to a perinatologist (Maternal- Fetal Medicine Specialist). My first appointment with the specialist is going to be on Thursday morning. I am pretty excited to be in the care of someone who hopefully knows a little more about this type of pregnancy and how everything will be working from here on out. I will update again after my appointment on Thursday.

In Between the Appointments

Well, we are just past halfway to our next appointment. I am exactly 13 weeks along today and have 191 days until my original due date. We will get to take a look at the babies again in just over a week and I am sooooo excited but a little nervous at the same time. Nothing else is really all that new. The regular symptoms of pregnancy are still in full effect and I am looking forward to hopefully feeling a little less tired soon. One thing that we do know for sure, that I have not mentioned before, is that (as long as they are still monoamniotic twins) the babies will be delivered at or before 34 weeks gestation. So, we will be expecting preemies. I have begun my research on preemie babies and I believe that we will find alot of the information helpfull down the road. We will register to take the Infant and Child CPR class this fall so that we are sure to be up to date and able to take a little ones home when it is time. Hope everyone is enjoying your summer and I will update again after my next appointment on August 17th.
